Mission Statement

ETC's mission is to provide a unique synergy of services that benefit the Montessori and Applied Learning educational community as well as the general public. The educational community includes professionals, educators, scholars, students, post-service educators, paraprofessionals, teacher's aides, and pre-service teachers. Through ETC Consulting we can provide Montessori resources that allow schools to better implement practices and further enhance their curriculum. In addition, ETC Montessori provides professional educators with Montessori curriculum and select materials that will enhance their existing program.

History

ETC Inc. was founded in 2003 with the goal of improving educational practices through the implementation of Montessori pedagogical concepts and inquiry based methodology.

Today, ETC oversees two different companies with each one focusing on specific aspects of the Montessori educational system.

ETC Montessori - ETC Montessori's mission is the development and publishing of Montessori curriculum. Our goal is to ensure that we produce curriculum that blends the traditional Montessori ideas and concepts with new breakthrough techniques in printing and production. Today ETC Montessori is the largest publisher of Montessori curriculum serving teachers and students from early childhood through middle school. Our team of award winning designers, seasoned Montessori educators that act both as consultants, and writers work closely together to ensure that every product that we produce is not only accurate and pedagogically appropriate but also beautiful and esthetically pleasing to the child.

ETC Consulting - ETC Consulting's main focus is that of offering consulting services that help schools through a variety of operating and organizational situations. ETC Consulting is set up as a non-profit charitable educational organization and structured as a 501(c)(3) entity. This in turn allows us to offer many of our consulting services at rates that are far more economical than other consulting firms currently on the market. One of the areas that ETC consultants are particularly versed in are the unique requirements that many public and charter Montessori schools face in meeting standards while still providing a full authentic Montessori experience.

Montessori Educational Institute - The Montessori Educational Institute of North America is ETC’s new teacher education program rich in the history of preparing adult learners to become Montessori teachers. MEINA’s elementary program has as its foundation, several faculty members and curriculum stemming from COMET, one of the first AMS elementary programs in the United States. When COMET closed in 2010, their course of study was handed to Teri Canaday, a former faculty member, in order to start a new program which would update their work and bring it into the 21st century. During this same period, Teri Canaday was also a faculty member of Memphis Montessori Institute, an early childhood program that was in existence since the 1980’s. A transfer of ownership in 2012, allowed MMI’s Early Childhood course to continue under the direction of Teri Canaday and Erika Ohlhaver, administrators of MEINA, establishing a program with highly experienced faculty steeped in the philosophy of Montessori, solid curriculum, and materials that make up a state-of-the-art Montessori adult learners environment.

ETC's consultants and products are highly regarded in the Montessori community. Since its inception, ETC has placed an emphasis on employing and working with quality individuals that are committed to promoting education. Our materials are designed by award-winning graphic artists, and tested by teachers and their students, as well as training centers and their interns. Our products as well as our consultants, are sought after by some of the largest and most prestigious Montessori Teacher Training Centers worldwide. ETC's designers have won numerous awards throughout their careers and we recognize that it is through their talent that we are able to bring you work that is visually stunning and pedagogically sound. Today our products are known throughout the world and are distributed through a carefully chosen network of distributors with an emphasis on quality and customer service.

Leadership

ETC Inc. is governed by a board of directors, and functions as an umbrella for the two companies which together provide a unified and comprehensive practice aimed to serving the Montessori community. Today, ETC Inc., operates and provides services on five continents, and is recognized for its excellence and attention to detail.

The company's philosophy of "total Montessori" encompasses design, consulting, implementation, and full production of Montessori curriculum. Underlying each company is a common foundation of exacting detail and carefully crafted richness, which is derived from the background of the company's key personnel.
